A Debate Between Friends
Last night, Jeremy joined Republican candidate Bruce Fenton for a discussion about Liberty and freedom in New Hampshire.
In this Campaign Update: Jeremy’s debate with Bruce Fenton, A Reddit AMA, Our upcoming Pizza Party on the Seacoast, Yard sign pickup update, Campaign Manager’s Update, and how you can help!
Was it a debate, or just a friendly conversation?
What really is the point of having a debate between two people who fundamentally agree on the disposition of the major issues at play? While some wanted a debate, what they got was a friendly conversation and polite discourse as Jeremy Kauffman joined Republican primary candidate Bruce Fenton at The SHELL in Rollinsford, NH for a discussion on the issues concerning New Hampshire Libertarians in this years election.
We’ll be sure to update you when the video of the event is finally published and available, but for now, hear from one attendee, Bill Barger, what he thought of the experience.
A Difference of Strategy, Not Opinion
New Hampshire resident, and Libertarian voter Bill Barger had the following to say about Wednesday night’s debate.
Much was agreed upon at the “debate” on Wednesday between Jeremy Kauffman and Bruce Fenton, the Libertarian Nominee and Republican Primary candidates for US Senate. In fact, despite distinct differences as people, nearly everything was agreed upon.
As libertarians, both would like to abolish the IRS, end the wars, end the drug war, end the Fed, end accredited investor laws, abolish the SEC, the FEC, the list goes on and on. Multiple times, both candidates said they 100% supported each other, leaving something to be wondered: Why are both running, in separate parties, and not combining their efforts to maximize impact?
The main contrasts are in approach, and attitude. This is apparent as soon as they pull into a parking lot. Fenton arrived a few minutes before the event, in a jumbo decorated van, his name plastered on the sides, driven by a couple of twenty-something trust fund kids wearing over sized suits. Kauffman showed up 45 minutes early, in his family’s minivan, having driven himself.
Throughout the debate, though Bruce was more rambling and Jeremy more concise, there was near 100% agreement until the Q&A phase.
When asked about displaying decorum vs contempt, for politicians who rob and abuse us, Fenton doubled down on his defense of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after her viral incident with notorious online troll Alex Stein, insisting that he wishes he could hang out with her for three weeks, seven hours of the day if he could, to convince her to think like us. He says we shouldn’t insult tyrants- he wants us to get along, but says that if the time comes, we may have to take up arms to defend ourselves from them. Kauffman’s attitude couldn’t be more different- he will not be wasting time or energy attempting to persuade tyrants to believe in liberty. He believes tyrants and their ideas do not deserve our respect and should be mocked relentlessly, as often as possible.
In the last minutes of Q&A, differences in candidate status also arose. Kauffman, a Libertarian, already secured his party’s nomination. Fenton, a Republican, hasn’t. Bruce has a primary to contend in. Jeremy does not. This means that while it is near certain that Jeremy Kauffman will be on the New Hampshire ballot in November, Bruce Fenton is still fighting for that position.Mr. Kauffman, an uncompromising radical who puts principle over party, encouraged as many Libertarians as possible (most are registered ‘Independent’ in New Hampshire due to ballot access law) to show up to the republican primary to help Mr Fenton secure the nomination. After this, the second to last question was for Fenton:
Would he, in the case of a primary loss to a neocon Republican such as Don Bolduc or Chuck Morse, throw his support behind Kauffman and the Libertarian Party and encourage the liberty republicans to do the same?
Bogged down by the burden of bipartisan politics, his answer turned him from person to politician instantaneously, “We’ll see what happens.”If Fenton expects support from nonpartisan libertarians to help him win in the primary, he should be willing, in the case of a primary loss, to push his Liberty Republicans across the aisle to vote for the most libertarian candidate on the ballot this November. And that candidate will be Jeremy Kauffman.

Yard Sign Updates!
Yard signs are in, and ready to go out! We have 2 great designs and we need your help to deploy them around the state!
You can pick up some signs at our upcoming Pizza Party on the seacoast! They look great in the yard, and any high traffic area you can think of could definitely use one!
If you can’t make one of our upcoming events int he next month, and still want to help with sign placement and getting the word out, send us a message on the website so we can work on getting some signage to you!
Ballot Access and Campaign Manager’s Update!
Six-thousand ballot access petitions were collected by our tenacious team of volunteers and campaign staff, and now they’ve all been turned in to the town clerks and supervisors of the checklist for over 185 different towns and cities here in New Hampshire for validation and certification!
Our events team is busy planning and executing a strategy to get as many members of the community interfacing with the campaign as possible.
Our video ad series has been immensely successful at driving interest in the campaign, and generating buzz, as well as forcing people to consider tough answers to tough questions about major issues that Libertarians are bringing to light. There’s more coming, and you can help us get them out there!
Making these video ads and hosting these events sure are fun, but it isn’t free. Neither are yard signs, billboards, social media ads, Hulu and YouTube ad time, or other efforts we want to use to get our message in front of voters!
Every last donation helps! Every $10 can place a yard sign! Every $1,000 Can put our message on a billboard for a month! Every $500 can run a Hulu Ad campaign targeting our key likely voters!
If you want to help us maximize our strike against the establishment and reach as many New Hampshire voters as possible, consider a large donation now, to help us plan effectively for the rest of the election season!
How Can You Help?
Right now, the best way you can help is by spreading the word. People care more about what their neighbors and friends think than about what the press tells them regarding candidates. Share this message, share the website or some of the ads on YouTube! Invite them to join you in coming to an event, and introduce them to Jeremy and The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire!
Our petitions are in the door, and our mission is transitioning to the next stage, and that involves involving you!
Yours in Liberty,
Justin O’Donnell
