Is Regulating Abortion Good, or Bad?
Are there good faith arguments, or only bad faith actors on both sides of the issue?
Good Faith Arguments
With the recent supreme court ruling, overturning the landmark case Roe v. Wade, millions of Americans espoused their anger at what was portrayed as the biggest move against women’s rights and bodily autonomy in a generation. The practice of abortion, and its availability, have become synonymous with women’s rights in the 21st century.
On the other hand, the idea of finally regulating abortion with the intent of protecting the lives of the unborn from certain death in the course of the procedure, millions of Americans rejoiced at the court’s decision to return the regulation of the practice back to the individual states. For them, the decision was a gross overstep in federalism that prioritized the comfort of unwilling mothers over the lives of their potential children.
One on hand, Bodily Autonomy is a critically important Libertarian issue, as the basis of liberty is the belief in ownership of one’s self and one’s body.
On the other hand, what role of government is there, if not for the protection of Life? Is not the murder of the unborn an issue that fits squarely within the narrows acceptable scope of a minimal state to protect?
Bad Faith Actors
In a debate absent nuance, politics trumps reality. Republicans and Democrats don’t really want a solution to the debate, because it’ll dry up one of their strongest wells for fundraising. In the 49 years that Republicans have been calling for Roe to be overturned, Democrats haven’t even attempted to codify its ruling into law or the constitution, merely fundraised on the pretense of protecting women’s rights.
Meanwhile, Republicans have spent the past 5 decades grandstanding on the issue, without ever once actually taking any steps to address the root causes of abortion. Things like economic stability for young mothers, the bureaucracy of adoption, and the lack of preventative solutions have all contributed to the rise in abortion numbers without any proposals from Republicans to address them.
So what is the Libertarian Stance?
So which is it, Is Abortion Good, or is It Bad?
Well, on Wednesday, August 3rd, at 9 pm Central, Jeremy Kauffman will be answering that question. Up until now, Libertarians have been officially silent on the issue, refusing to take a side, and refusing to upset anyone. By signing up now, you can be among the first invited to the premiere of the new video!
Will Jeremy pronounce once and for all, that Abortion is Good? Or will he take the position that Abortion is Bad? The only way to find out will be to tune in, so make sure you do!

Ballot Access Update!
For those of you in the loop (and those of you new to it), you know that Ballot access is always one of the most difficult hurdles Libertarians have to face when running for office!
Here in New Hampshire, Libertarians who want to run for office as third-party candidates have an extra hurdle to jump before even getting their names printed on the ballot. While Republicans and Democrats can simply pay a Fee and appear in a primary, Libertarians must not only pay that fee but also collect signatures from voters in the form of a petition to prove popular support for ballot access!
This unequal burden requires us to collect 3,000 valid petitions from registered voters in New Hampshire, with 1,500 from each congressional district.
Well, we did that and more! To account for potential disqualifications due to moving, legibility, voter list purges, or duplicate petitions (each voter can only sign for one candidate), our dedicated team of volunteers spent their summer collecting 5,920 petitions! We are currently in the process of turning these petitions in for validation, but are confident that this will be enough to secure Jeremy’s placement on the November General Election Ballot!

This monumental effort could not have succeeded without the help of our wonderful campaign staff, volunteers, the leadership team at LPNH, our donors and supporters, and the nearly 6,000 New Hampshire voters who took time out of their day to sign our petition!
If you haven’t already, consider joining The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire, to help us in the future and make sure this effort doesn’t go to waste, and that we can make the most of it by continuing our fight to make it permanent in The State of New Hampshire!
Yours in Liberty,
